Choosing the right yoga mat and equipment can be pretty confusing. There is a ton of information out there and a million sellers with similar looking products on Amazon and other sites. They all seem to say their yoga mats are the best but how do you really know which mat is right for you?
That’s where this page can help you. I’ve put together a collection of my favourite yoga mats and equipment. These are either tried and tested by me, or my regular students use them and have given me personal feedback on their experience. Not everybody needs the same yoga mat. I for example don’t sweat much when I do yoga, so I find the Manduka mats perfect for me. Some students on the other hand get sweaty palms and would slide on a Manduka mat. Something like the Lifeform would be better in this instance.
I hope you enjoy this guide and please feel free to contact me for any other advice relating to yoga equipment

MANDUKA PRO YOGA MAT – From £124
I love this yoga mat. It’s the yoga mat that I use for my practice at home. I wanted a yoga mat that wasn’t too grippy so that I could slide my feet through my hands in my ashtanga practice without getting stuck. I’ve had my Manduka mat for 10 years and it is still in perfect condition and looks as good as new and doesn’t smell. There are lots of different colours to choose from in this mat style.
Key Features
- Lifetime guarantee – the mat will never peel, flake or fade
- 6mm thick – dense cushioning for your joints. Thick yet very stable. Great to use on carpet as doesn’t slide
- Closed cell surface – sweat and bacteria won’t absorb into the yoga mat and can be cleaned easily
- Medium grip – allows you to flow between postures without sticking to the mat.
- Standard: 3.4kg; 180cm x 66cm; 6mm thick
- Extra Long: 4.3kg; 215cm x 66cm; 6mm thick
Best For
Experienced yogis that don’t need extra cushioning for the knees. It’s a big investment but worth it as you won’t need to replace it….10 years and counting for me…. Good to keep for home practice or take by car to the studio.
Not Good For
Yogi’s that get sweaty hands and feet. It can be a bit slippery if you tend to sweat. Definitely not a mat for hot yoga. Check out the Lifeforme and Sweaty Betty mat if you slip on your mat.
MANDUKA PROLITE YOGA MAT – From £97
This is the little sister to the Manduka mat above. It has all the same qualities but it’s lighter weighing in at just 1.8kg. It’s also slightly narrower than the 6mm Manduka mat. I use this yoga mat when I travel abroad. It’s not technically a travel yoga mat, but I like to have a good quality mat with me when I am on holiday so it works for me. I have students that use this as their main yoga mat to bring to studios as it’s lighter and more portable. It’s a good quality yoga mat that will last you a long time. This mat comes in just a few colours.
